About Do More

Helping our community move more.

The Do More Movement Directory is a free community initiative, started by a doctor, to make it easy for anyone to find a way to move that suits them.

What is the Do More Movement Directory?

Every town is full of ways to move: gyms and pools, dance studios and martial arts clubs, netball comps and parkruns, surf schools, walking groups, personal trainers and everything in between. The hard part is often knowing they're there, and finding one that feels right for you.

The directory brings them together in one place. Search by what you enjoy, where you are and who it suits, whether that's beginners, kids, over-50s or people getting back into it after an injury.

Why it matters

Moving more is one of the most powerful things any of us can do for our health. It strengthens the heart, lungs, muscles and bones, improves sleep, mood and mental health, and lowers the risk of many long-term conditions, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers.

Yet most of us move less than we'd like, and the reasons are usually practical: not knowing what's nearby, what it costs, when it runs or whether it's for “someone like me”. Do More is about clearing those hurdles away.

How much more doesn't matter. Wherever we're starting from, we can all do more.

Meet Dr Ash Bowden, aka Doctor Do More

I'm a doctor working across general practice and emergency medicine on the NSW South Coast, where I'm training as a rural generalist.

I trained in the UK, studying medicine at the University of Leicester and Sport & Exercise Science at Loughborough University, then worked in Southampton, including six months in intensive care. On ward rounds there, the first question about every patient was “what's their exercise tolerance?” Seeing how much fitness shaped the way people coped with serious illness is where I found my “why”.

Since moving to Australia I've spent almost five years in emergency departments across NSW, from Gosford and Wyong to Wagga Wagga and the Snowy Mountains, before starting rural generalist training.

Movement matters to me personally, too. Through medical school and my early years as a doctor, regular training was what lifted the low days, and I've been open about my own mental health ever since.

Doctor Do More is the name I use to encourage myself and others to move more for our health and happiness. I try to practise what I preach, whether that's surfing, diving, swimming or training, and I share honest, practical health and mental health content on social media.

I first built the directory on the Central Coast in 2019. I'm rebuilding it now for the places I've lived and worked: Eurobodalla, Wagga Wagga, the Snowy Monaro and the Central Coast.

Run an activity? You're who this is for.

The directory only works because of the gyms, clubs, coaches, studios and volunteers who get our community moving. Your listing is free. Claim it to keep your details right, add photos, prices and session times, and reach local people looking for something just like yours, including patients whose doctor has told them to get moving.

If we've emailed or called to check your details, that's simply us keeping the directory accurate. There's nothing to buy.

Help spread the word

Tell a friend, share it with your club, or mention it to your patients. The more people who know what's on offer near them, the more of us will get moving. Know a group we've missed? Suggest an activity. Questions or ideas? Email admin@do-more.live; it comes straight to me.
